PREPARATIONS are well under way in Cartmel for the launch of this year’s special Christmas events.
The village played host last year to the first Cartmel Priory Advent Festival which featured an exhibition of more than 50 angels. It attracted more than 1,500 visitors on the first night and raised £1,400 for local food banks and the priory over the week.
This year’s festival has a “stained glass window” theme with individuals, organisations and businesses invited to submit exhibits on themes of their choice for display in the Priory from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 8. They will be on show between 9.30am and 5.30pm daily. Admission is free with programmes costing £1.
The festival launch coincides with the official switch-on of Cartmel’s Christmas lights on November 29. There will be a Christmas market from 3pm with more than 20 stalls, a jazz band, free mulled wine and mince pies (from 5pm) a procession by Father Christmas, his reindeer and the Flookburgh Band.
The official switch-on ceremony (7pm) will be carried out by Irini Tzortzoglou, BBC Masterchef Champion for 2019. The village square will be closed to traffic from 5.30pm to 7pm and alternative access to the racecourse car park will be available via Cavendish Street.
