BARROW’S most famous artist has launched his calendar for 2020.

Every year celebrated artist John Duffin releases a calendar featuring some of his favourite paintings from throughout the 12 months.

Duffin lives in London but regularly returns to his hometown.

The 2020 calendar includes some iconic images from across Furness in Duffin’s easily-recognisable style such as Earthquake Records, the view of the Sir John Barrow Monument from the A590, the Rampside ‘needle’ and the now partially-destroyed House of Lords.

“I take a great deal of care choosing the images for the calendar,” the former shipyard draughtsman said.

“This year the calendar features paintings of The House of Lords, Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Rampside Lighthouse, Walney Channel and Black Combe, The Hoad in Ulverston, St Michael’s Church Rampside, two great views across the Barrow and Dalton skyline and the fondly-remembered Earthquake Records.

“I have tried to make a high quality product that captures the essence of the area, it’s great buildings, historic monuments, wonderful sea views and dramatic skies.

“The calendar is unique in being an artist’s vision of his hometown and local area. I try to capture the arc of the year and choose paintings showing the seasons and reflecting places that I associate with each month.”

Duffin has provided The Mail with three signed copies. To be in with a chance of winning one put your name, address and telephone number on an envelope with the word ‘Duffin’ at the top and drop it off at our office in Abbey Road. Three winners will be picked at random after December 1.

The calendar, priced at £7.50, is on sale at outlets including Beddalls Newsagents in Dalton, The Gallery on Cavendish Street in Barrow, Home Images in Duke Street, Heaths in Dalton Road, Lakes Parade Stores and The Dock Museum.
