Two Xenolith Explorer Scouts have gained their Queen’s Scout Award, which is the highest award a scout can achieve.

Evie Frost, 19-years-old from Kirkby, is continuing to volunteer in the Xenolith Unit as an assistant leader while studying Contemporary Dance at Bath Spa University.

To gain her Queen Scout Award Evie completed her service as an assistant helper at the Contemporary Dance at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, and her residential project was a 10 day youth group residential in Norway.

Leah Albion, also 19-years-old, from Broughton, volunteers in the Unit as an assistant leader and after completing her Btec level 3 in Outdoor Adventure and Sport at Kendal College is working at Grizedale Forest, on the Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure and in November will be going to Canada as a Skiing Instructor for 4 months.

To gain her Queen Scout Award Leah has completed her service as a volunteer with 2nd Ulverston Scouts and for her residential project she went on a personal development course at Ullswater Outward Bound which was part of her National Citizen Service delivered by the University of Cumbria.

Both Leah and Evie have gained international experiencing camping in Holland at the Naalenveld scout centre and this year at the Zellhof International scout centre in Austria. They both completed their 4 day expedition in Scotland; their physical activities included fell running, netball and completing the Keswick to Barrow walk.

In 2018 they took part in a four peaks challenge climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their task along with 5 other explorers from the unit was to plan and execute this adventure, sorting the budget, route which was by minibus, accommodation and provisions.

This was great experience in preparation for their Explorer Belt in 2019. Bryan Caine Xenolith Explorer Scout Leader said “They have both devoted lots of time and energy into gaining this award and should be proud of their achievements. In recognition of their efforts they are both going to the Queen Scout’s St Georges Day gathering at Windsor Castle next April where they will meet a representative of The Queen and The Chief Scout, Bear Grylls.
