This week’s recipient of The Mail’s Bouquet of the Week is a selfless trustee of a Cumbrian charity and her group of hardworking volunteers.

Rhona Teale, from Walney, is a trustee at Boxes of Hope Cumbria.

“I started about five or six years ago back when Boxes of Hope Cumbria started. This will be my fifth trip to Romania. I’ll be there from December 8-14.

“In Romania we’ll be handing out the shoeboxes to the little villages - we’ll be mainly based in Transylvania. These people live in tin huts, the children have nothing on their feet.

“Having been there and seeing first hand the children and the poverty - you can’t really describe it.

“It’s very moving and you feel very humbled. We don’t always go back to some places so it will be the only present they will ever receive.

“I know we have poverty here in the UK but it is nothing compared to there in Romania.

“Nothing will beat seeing the children’s faces when they open their present. I feel honoured that I can do this every year.

“So far we have collected 3,644 presents. This is a vast amount and I am absolutely delighted at it.

“It’s not just me though, there’s a team of us. It’s a big team effort and I’ve had a lot of volunteers this year.

“I’d like to thank Women’s Community Matters at the Nan Tait Centre for allowing us to use the room for free.”
