BARROW’S Kapadokya restaurant is a Turkish delight - especially at lunchtime when a special menu offers quality food at a knockdown price.

Nestled at the very top of Dalton Road, the eaterie has become one of the best restaurants in the town since it opened last year.

It offers traditional Turkish cuisine, including fresh, charcoal-grilled meat.

It’s often busy in the evenings, with diners spilling into the upstairs of the restaurant, where an ornate cave recalling the houses of the Capaddocia region covers the eating space.

But it’s quieter at lunchtime, when we decided to go.

Far from Byzantine, the simple lunch menu offers you a choice of meze and a main for only £5.90.

For the starters, we plumped for the ispanak tarator - chopped spinach in a creamy yoghurt flavoured with garlic and olive oil - and hummus.

These came with crunchy tortilla chips to dip in, as well as pots of a lovely tzatziki and spicy dip.

My only complaint was between us we could have done with a few more of the chips to get the most from the starters.

For the mains we had shish kebabs of lamb and chicken respectively.

These came alongside plenty of bread to dunk in the remaining dips, as well as rice and a dressed salad.

The chicken was incredibly succulent and had clearly been marinated in a number of delicious herbs and spices.

The lamb had a similar level of juiciness.

The rice which came with it was also very tasty and extremely well-cooked.

The salad, which featured lettuce, cucumber, tomato and red onion, was a welcome addition and added crispy texture to the dish overall.

With two Cokes and two courses the bill came to around £16.

You could easily end up spending more money buying your lunch at Greggs and speedy service means back you’ll easily be back to the office in time to power through the afternoon.

It must be noted as well that some were concerned over the restaurant’s previous hygiene rating of one, but following a recent inspection the eaterie now proudly displays its rating of four in the window.
