WE ARE always moved by the stunning submissions members produce for our ‘Remembrance’ theme and this year was no different.

From touching roadside tributes and the creative use of a drone to Remembrance Sunday Services captured across the county, there were a wide variety of spectacular entries.

Oxford Mail:

As always, poppies featured in many images.

Some of our favourites included a row of small wooden crosses with the red flower on being placed by a war memorial by Becca Collacott, as well as a poppy on a flag at the back of a motorbike during the PC Harper Ride of Respect passing through the memorial garden at Carterton by Marie Barnett Comley.

Oxford Mail:

We also loved a pair of knitted poppy tributes. The first added to Magdalen Bridge in Oxford in a image by Stephanie Jenkins and a row of them attached to railings, which was snapped by Sarah Nice.

Many members were captivated by the roadside sculptures along the M40 at Aston Rowant, we especially enjoyed Linda Robertson's shot which was against a vibrant orange backdrop.

This theme, more than most, we loved the stories behind the touching tributes.

Oxford Mail:

Sharing an image of a picture of a wreath and old image of couple placed on a grave on the camera club Facebook page, Rosemary Harris wrote: “I took my friend to Bari British cemetery in southern Italy to visit the grave of her uncle who died in the war in Taranto.

“None of the family had been able to go before so it was a special and moving occasion."

Oxford Mail:

Diane Braggs, meanwhile, captured a tribute a little closer to home, explaining: “Honouring the two US Airforce personnel, Captain Jerry Lindh and Major Mike McGuire, who sacrificed their owns lives by bringing their stricken F1-11 down on the airfield at Upper Heyford to avoid crashing into houses of the nearby village on September 17, 1992.”

The wreaths were laid on Remembrance Sunday, at Upper Heyford near to where the F1-11 crashed.
