POLICE cordoned off a Barrow street.

Police cars blocked off both sides of Florence Street.

Witnesses nearby said they had seen armed police.

At around 3pm the cordon was lifted.

A police spokesman said: "Police attended an address in Florence Street in Barrow following concerns for the welfare of a man inside the address.

"The man, aged 37, was subsequently located in the vicinity of Barrow Police Station at around 3pm.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is currently in custody.

"Police would like to thank the public for their patience whilst officers worked to bring this incident to a safe resolution."

Earlier, a school issued a message to parents urging them to collect their children.

Parents of children at St George's C of E Primary School were told to collect their children following an 'ongoing incident' at nearby Florence Street.
