A MOTORIST has been jailed for driving while disqualified.
Christopher Berton was given the sentence after he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Barrow.
The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance and failing to stop when asked by the police.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence while driving on Kirkstone Pass, the A592, near Ambleside on November 9.
Magistrates sentenced the man to 12 weeks in prison.
The sentence was said to have been aggravated by the defendant’s record of previous offending.
Berton, of Spooner Vale in Windermere, was also banned from holding a licence for 12 months and 42 days.
For failing to stop for a police officer, he was given no separate penalty.
Berton was also told to pay a £122 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
