MOTORISTS have been warned the bridge connecting Barrow and Walney will rise tomorrow.
Cumbria County Council will be opening the lifting span of Jubilee Bridge at lunchtime to help plan for the final phase of the council’s £4.5m bridge maintenance works programme.
These works will extend the life of the bridge by many years.
As a result the bridge will be closed from 12.30pm for approximately 30 minutes.
During this short period there will be no access to or from Walney Island.
A spokesperson for Cumbria County Council said: “The duration of the bridge lift will be kept to an absolute minimum and should last no longer than 20-30 minutes.
"We apologise for any inconvenience and would advise people to plan ahead for journeys during the short closure.”
