AN ADVERT for firearm offices to patrol the shipyard has gone live.

The Ministry of Defence has started its recruitment process for Barrow.

Applicants for the vacancies must have completed their probation period, a minimum of two years service, as a regular Constable and have the relevant qualifications, skills and experience for specific specialist posts.

The advert says applications are invited from current serving Police Constables and Police Sergeants for Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) vacancies.

This also includes applicants from roles within marine policing and dog handling - throughout the UK.

Officers who have left the police service no more than 12 months ago may also apply.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend for assessment at MDP HQ on a date to be confirmed. The assessment will consist of an interview, medical and fitness test where you will be required to reach level 7.6 on the bleep test.

A spokesman from the MOD said: “The vacancies are with the MOD Police.

“The jobs are at the BAE Systems site, all nuclear sites across the country have them.

“They will be providing security to the site.

“We are recruiting over a large area so I cannot go into detail about how many will be recruited at this specific site.”
