A POLICE dog from the Cumbria Police dog unit has taken a well-deserved retirement.

The Cumbria Police dog unit has retired police dog Bronn after five years of service.

PD Bronn was brought over to Cumbria at just eight weeks old, from the Isle of Man police dog breeding scheme in 2013.

Bronn was licenced as an operational police dog at the age of one and later furthered his career and became a firearms support dog.

During PD Bronn's career he has located numerous high risk missing people, as well as tracking down and locating offenders.

PC Glenn Myerscough of the Cumbria Police dog unit and Bronn’s handler said:“Bronn has been a great asset to Cumbria Police and we will be sad to see him go.

"He has been involved in a number of jobs across his five year career.

“To name a few he was involved in tracking the offenders of a robbery and locating discarded property in north Cumbria, tracking and locating a number of suspects following a robbery in Workington and following quad bike thefts.

“He will be retiring to rural Cumbria and I will be joined by newly licenced PD Echo operationally.”

PD Echo, who will be taking over as Bronn's replacement, is PC Myerscough's third police dog.
