A FUNERAL home in Barrow is asking local people to make donations to the Christmas hampers it is preparing for a cat and dog rescue centre.

The funeral home is working on creating 20 Christmas hampers for Animal Welfare Furness, which will be filled with treats and toys for the cats and dogs that are homed there.

Animal Welfare Furness rescues, rehabilitates, nurses and rehomes hundreds of cats, dogs and other animals each year in the Furness area.

As well as providing 20 hampers, 11th Barrow Beacon Hill scout group will be baking dog biscuits to put inside the hampers.

Michelle Hudson, chairperson of the charity, said: "We really feel for the animals here who are waiting for their forever home, especially around Christmas when we know families are spoiling their pets."
