House building in Cumbria has increased by 63 per cent in five years, according to new figures.
A newly-released report by Lichfields for the Home Builders Federation (HBF) revealed the huge contribution house building is making to the Cumbrian economy.
More than 1,777 new homes were provided in the region in the last year, generating £301 million of economic activity.
The report also underlines the impact the Government’s Help to Buy scheme is having in the region.
Since the scheme launched, home building has increased by 152 per cent in Allerdale, 134 per cent in Carlisle and 75 per cent in Barrow.
However, a decrease was shown in the Copeland area.
The report shows that in 2017/18, house building in Cumbria was responsible for: supporting more than 5,500 local jobs, delivering more than £1.4m of spending on new and improved schools, the equivalent of employing 60 newly qualified teachers, or funding 305 additional primary school places.
