STRIKE A light. Someone with very deep pockets can be the next owner of avery posh golden matchbox from Barrow which comes with a price tag of £2,000.
The match holder in 9ct gold and with a leather case is engraved with aship built for the Russian navy more than 100 years ago.
It is being sold in a Munich sale by German auctioneers Hermann Historicaon November 18 to 19 and has been given a starting price for prospectivebidders of 2,500 euros - around £2,150
The design on the box features the armored cruiser Rurik which was launchedat Barrow on November 4 in 1906.
Rurik is the semi-legendary founder of ancient Russia and it likely the boxwould have been a presentation piece at the launch ceremony.
The ship served as the flagship of the Baltic Fleet and was involved in anumber of combat operations during the First World War, including mine-layingoperations. .
Rurik was sold for scrapping in 1930.
