WITH the festive period just around the corner, a luxury Lake District hotel has gathered data to reveal the most sought-after Christmas destinations across the country.

From Christmas markets to city breaks, people flock in their thousands to destinations across the UK and Armathwaite Hall Hotel studied Google UK search queries for every single town, city and region in the country to see which destinations people are searching for the most during the festive period.

The team at the hotel split its research into the most popular categories, including Christmas Markets, Cities for Christmas, Christmas Seaside Resorts, Christmas National Parks and New Year Eve Cities.

Results from their research concluded that the Lake District took the top spot as the most searched for Christmas national park. In second place was the Peak District followed by New Forest.

In regards to Christmas, Markets Manchester was the clear winner– with almost double as many searches as Edinburgh.

And as for New Year Eve's escapes, London won with Manchester and Edinburgh in close second.
