THE story of how lifeboat crews help make our coasts a safer place for boat users and beach users will feature in a talk on Friday.
Mike Cumming, chairman of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution at Barrow, is the guest of Barrow Civic and Local History Society.
His presentation on The RNLI in Barrow is from 2pm at the Trinity Church Centre, Abbey Road. Admission, including refreshments, is £2.50 for members and £3 for visitors. All are welcome.
Colin Smith is the speaker on Friday, November 29, with the topic Ulverston Canal – Past, Present and Future.
Life in Wartime Furness was the subject of the last talk to the society, given by The Mail’s nostalgia writer Bill Myers.
His presentation marked the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War and looked at the role of women during the conflict.
