THE latest recipient of The Mail’s Bouquet of the Week is a prolific blood donor who says he does it because he wants to help people.

Robin Nott has donated blood 100 times and has now take to donating platelets, a vital service for people with Leukaemia.

The 64-year-old was nominated for the flowers by family member Sheila Robinson.

She said her brother-in-law was ‘hardworking’ and ‘generous’.

“He will always help you out with anything you need,” she said.

“It’s such a vital and helpful thing he does in donating blood and platelets.

“You can save a number of lives."

Sheila added: “I know there are lots of people who have given but I don’t think anyone has done it quite in the quantities that he has.”

Robin, who lives in Byron Street in Ulverston, first gave blood at the Coronation Hall in the 1980s and has kept going back.

He said: “I do it because it really helps people.

“It can be a lifesaver to people and the platelets, which I’ve started donating more recently, can be important for people with Leukaemia.”

Robin said donating blood could be extremely rewarding.

“You can receive messages telling you which hospitals your blood has been sent to," he said.

“The other day I got a message saying my blood had gone to Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool.

“Apparently it could help as many as 12 kids.

“It can hurt a bit to give blood but it’s worth it to help people who need it.”

He added: “It was a nice surprise to receive the flowers.

“I knew nothing about it.

“It was a very thoughtful gesture by Sheila."
