MANY people in Barrow may not have a lot, but they are rich when it comes to generosity.

The story of Malcolm Leaver, who was hoping to walk his daughter Adelle down the aisle in two years’ time, was cut short by his untimely death at the terribly young age of 55.

Well-known in the town, people have now come forward to honour Adelle’s request that her father be given the send-off that he deserves.

Dealing with grief is never easy and when a major figure in your life is lost to you, the world can strike you as being particularly cruel.

Losing a parent is one of the most traumatic experiences we ever go through. You want them there to share those special moments, such as when you marry or have children.

Their absence at times of great happiness in your life can leave a gaping hole, but the lesson is to focus on those who remain stoically at your side.

Thanks to local people, Adelle and her family will at least be able to say goodbye in a manner befitting the man himself.

They have been able to bring a positive to what would always be a really difficult day for all concerned.

The quiet support of loyal friends, relatives and neighbours, means the world by reminding us there are people out there who do genuinely care.
