THE new Ulverston leisure centre will provide ‘the right mix’ of facilities, councillors have pledged.
A year ago Ulverston Tennis Club complained that indoor tennis provision at the new centre could be scrapped after Glaxo reduced its funding to the project.
But Cllr Robin Ashcroft, cabinet member for the economy, culture and leisure, has moved to reassure people that no decisions have been made.
Cllr Ashcroft, the Liberal Democrat member for Grange, told a meeting of South Lakeland District Council: “There are a number of interest groups which have strong opinions as to what the balance of facilities should be at the new Ulverston Leisure Centre.
“We are talking with them, including the national governing bodies of various sports and we are determined to get the right mix which works for everybody.
“We take on board the concerns of the tennis users’ group and no decision on the mix or design has yet been finalised. It’s a work in a progress and we will update the council as and when we have further information.”
