BUDDING performers enjoyed rehearsing at a new musical theatre group in Colchester.

Alex Munn, founder of Project 21, has set up classes for people with Down’s Syndrome as an avenue to express themselves.

In the third week of rehearsals members were performing to Mambo Number 5 and Spice Girls hits for Nineties week.

Parents are welcome to attend the social group where the members learn choreography for whatever show they have coming up.

Alex said: “We only have two weeks left, it’s very exciting.

“It went really well and next week the Colchester group is going to Ipswich to join the group there for a dress rehearsal.

“They love it, it’s the opportunity they haven’t had before.

“It’s all about them and it’s all for them.”

The group was also celebrating with cake as one of the members celebrated her 41st birthday.

The next show, called Down the Decades, will be on November 2 in Woodbridge.

Six members from the Colchester group will be taking part in the show.

The classes run from 10.30am until 12.30pm every Saturday, at the St John’s Community Centre in St John’s Close, Colchester.
