THE Royal Navy's F-35 Lightning jets have touched down on the new aircraft carrier for the first time.
Crew onboard the £3bn HMS Queen Elizabeth, which was commissioned in 2017, made the announcement on Sunday.
The ship, which was partly designed by engineers in Barrow, has no catapults or arrestor wires and is instead designed to operate vertical or short take-off and landing aircraft.
Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace said: "This is another step toward's the UK's carrier strike capability becoming fully operational."
