AN Ulverston man has appeared in court charged with assault and causing criminal damage.

Lorcan Muncaster, of Elleriggs Brow, is accused of assaulting Lauren Brown in Barrow on August 18.

The 19-year-old has also been charged with smashing the rear window of a car belonging to the same victim and damaging her bathroom door on the same date.

Muncaster appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to damaging Miss Brown's bathroom door and the rear windscreen of her car. The value of the damage is unknown.

He denied assaulting Miss Brown and magistrates scheduled a trial to take place at the same court on November 26.

Bail conditions prevent Muncaster from contacting the alleged victim directly or indirectly by any means.

Muncaster is also prohibited from visiting the front or rear of St Francis Gardens in Barrow to prevent interference with witnesses.

Magistrates also made an order preventing Muncaster from cross-examining Miss Brown in person and ordered that a solicitor be appointed for the purposes of cross-examination during the trial.
