Ulverston pub launches a new gourmet food menu led by a cutting-edge chef

Since taking over Kings Arms four months ago, Claire Farrell and Dylan Revell have reignited the pub music scene through their hugely popular open mic nights and musical events.

However, the pair wanted to expand the business even further by offering a food service which catered for all their customers’ needs.

Miss Farrell said: “With a prominent town centre position, we felt that putting a creative take on a pub menu would offer the people of Ulverston and beyond something different that matches with the creative and warm atmosphere we have already created with music and a warm friendly welcome.

“We both come from a catering background and it seemed the natural progression for us both as a team and our business.

“We both love working in a busy environment and love the buzz of a busy food service.”

Heading the newly-launched gourmet menu is chef Mari Ryan.

“We met Mari at the right time and have formed a good team,” Mrs Farrell said.

“She’s a fantastic addition to our team.”

Originally from Kent, Mari has recently relocated here with her husband Darren.

The couple have enjoyed travels together and have always had a passion for dishes that are freshly cooked using local produce.

Mrs Farrell said Mari’s passion for fresh, gourmet dishes had inspired the pub’s new menu.

“This is a huge inspiration to Mari’s menu which focuses on precisely this,” Mrs Farrell said.

“It adapts pub classics including meat, vegetarian and a good selection of vegan dishes.

“All our meats are sourced from Irving’s butchers of Ulverston and our vegetables from Brocklebanks.”

The pair have already planned their Christmas menu which includes a host of festive-inspired seasonal delights.

“Our Christmas menu is also out very soon with some exciting seasonal delights for parties or just small gatherings with friends,” Mrs Farrell said.

The Kings Arms offers a brunch, lunch, all-day and evening menu, serving food from noon until 9pm.
