A GROCERY store on a high street full of independent shops has stood out for its planet saving polices, culminating in them winning The Mail’s Trader of the Week Award.

Cut The Wrap is based in Upper Brook Street, Ulverston ans is unique because it denounces the use of single-use plastics.

It offers customers the ability to do their grocery shopping without the unnecessary packaging, while saving thethem cash and protecting the planet.

The family run business was started by Cat Moffatt, alongside her husband Paul Moffatt, after they found themselves feeling frustrated by the difficulty of cutting down on their plastic and food waste as a family

However, the family realised this was not easy to do at an affordable price, so they set up Cut The Wrap in July of 2018 to help deliver this to the community.

They offer a service that is completely package free, so customers can bring in their own tubs and containers to be filled up, or if you forget to bring packaging, they have recyclable paper bags available.

A range of services and products are on offer to their customers which avoid single use plastics such as toiletries refills, toothbrushes made from bamboo, washable wipes, shampoo bars, and much more.

Cat Moffatt, owner of Cut The Wrap, said: “It feels absolutely amazing to get this award, it just feels really special to get this recognition.

“It is lovely to know we have this support from the public to help avoid single use plastic after we went on our own zero-plastic journey as a family.

“We just had a lightbulb moment after constantly having to throw away food packaging, so we now encourage our customers to bring in their own reusable containers.

“We also hire out party plates for those who do not want to use disposable ones, they are solid plastic plates made from recyclable materials that people can use, wash, and bring back.

“I hope our customers now find it easier to have a lifestyle that has less impact on the planet.

“People who come to our shop know the products we have and what we do is eco friendly and they trust us to deliver that for them.”

The 37-year-old mum-of-two also does consultations about reducing the amount of single use plastics people use, as well as doing public speaking about her journey into a zero plastic lifestyle and her inspiration for this.
