BARCLAYS is stopping customers from withdrawing funds from post offices.

From January 8, any Barclays customers will not be able to withdraw money out from their accounts within post offices.

Customers can currently take out up to £300 a day over the counter using a debit card.

A Barclays spokesman aid: "As the bank focuses its investment into free-to use ATMs and cash-back at businesses as the most efficient way for cash withdrawals, it is also reducing related reliance on the Post Office."

The announcement has raised concerns among Millom residents who rely on this service.

The Barclays branch shut in Millom seven months ago.

One customer said: “That is disgraceful, why are the banks stopping us access our money from another outlet after they close the direct route to our account. I bank with Barclays and will be complaining.”

There are also branches in Ulverston, Grange and Ambleside.
