YOUNGSTERS found out how to express the spirit of Friendship through the making of masks as experts from Northumbria University came to Walney School in 2002 to pass on their skills.
The Mail, on Friday, May 31, noted: "The scheme was set up through the school's Excellence Challenge Project.
"The children have been displaying their creative skills and were also involved in mask making and drama in their art lessons on the theme Spirit of Friendship.
"Some pupils were presented with a Performing Arts Interlink Certificate as a result of the project."
Walney School headteacher Ian Gage said: "Pupils at Walney enjoy opportunities to be involved in the arts.
"Our drama productions are high in quality and our art department produces excellent results.
"I am pleased with this link funded by the Education Action Zone.
"It has enriched the curriculum and created enthusiasm among the pupils.”
