A MAJOR milestone has been reached in the fight to save a much-loved playground.
A group fighting to return the Storey Square park in Dalton to its former glory has reached its fundraising target to form a charity.
Fundraisers have amassed £5,000 through donations from the community and a grant from Dalton Town Council.
The group hopes charity status will now allow it apply for grants in an effort to raise around £60,000.
Plans have been drawn up with playground designers Playdale and campaigners have vowed to carry on fundraising until their target is reached.
Families in Dalton were left in tears last year when the play equipment in Storey Square was taken away by Barrow Borough Council as part of budgets cuts.
It was one of four parks in the Barrow borough area to face this fate.
