A Cumbrian entrepreneur has been rewarded for her commitment to raising the profile of women in business.

Alison Magee-Barker, of AJ Lakes Consultancy, was named as the first Pink Link Ambassador at the Enterprise Vision Awards, where she also picked up the Training and Coaching Award.

Cumbria had a record-breaking 31 entries in the 2019 awards and Alison led and co-ordinated the finalists in the run-up to the ceremony.

Organiser Pink Link Ladies wanted to recognise her work so awarded her the ambassador accolade as part of a new programme launched to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Alison, who also won in 2018, was among five Cumbrian winners this year.

Izzy Arrieta, of Dean Taylor Bathrooms, won the Small Business category; Amy Bateman, of Amy Bateman Photography, was named Solo Business of the year; Victoria Stott, of Victoria Stott Design won the Creative Industry category and Kirsty Mackenzie, of Lakeland Inns, came out on top in the Hospitality Industry category.

Michelle Wilkin, of Lakeland Retreats, was also highly commended in the Customer Services category.

Alison said: “From the very beginning the whole experience has been incredible, especially getting to know so many inspiring Cumbrian women.

"It has shown that this county delivers successful, innovative businesswomen. We’ve all encouraged each other throughout the whole process and I hope Cumbria is proud of all the winners and finalists who have shone a light not just on themselves but on the county as a whole."

Coral Horn, awards founder, added: “Alison has been fundamental in spreading the word about how the awards can impact on women in business in Cumbria.

"Alison has inspired women to get involved and have a go."
