AN experienced airline pilot and glider enthusiast has given his expert opinion after a number of people in Barrow spotted an unusual object seeming to fall from the sky.

Videos from September 13 show a large object falling slowly towards the sea off Walney.

One resident captured a video from Ratings Village looking toward Barrow town centre.

Graham Sturgeon is a British Airways pilot and member of Walney's Lakes Gliding Club who has around flying 15,000 hours.

"The video is possibly a military aircraft doing a rapid descent," the pilot of 35 years said.

"Sometimes again it’s not easy to see what’s happening.

"An aircraft coming the other way to us 1,000 feet below always looks like it is going to pass about 2,000 feet above you, until it’s only a mile or two away and as our closing speeds are around 1,200mph that’s milliseconds!

"The location makes it more likely to be a military aircraft as plane often 'recover' over the sea and then make their way back to Warton.

"Looks like a jet as it’s trailing condensation so probably a Eurofighter Typhoon from Warton."
