Following the announcement that Labour plan to scrap Universal Credit if they win the next election, Mail readers have had their say on the controversial benefits system.

Margaret Hadley said: "I volunteer at the foodbank. It's heartbreaking some times to see how people suffer due to Universal credit. And before anyone says they are scrounging I can assure you they are not. For some its embarrassing and demoralising to step through that door."

Karen Lancaster said: "I always say it’s easy to promise all these changes in the manifesto when you don’t actually have to deliver them, a promise costs nowt, where’s all the money coming from, I’d rather stick hot pins in my eyeballs than vote for Corbyn, and I’m a life long labour voter"

Russ Dean said: "Labour are the only hope for the majority if this country. All the others tried and failed. Tories have wrecked the country.

We need to give radical socialist policies that work for the majority. Not funding massive tax cuts for the already rich.

Jane Wilson said "His promises are nothing but hot air."
