FREEMASONS descended upon Ambleside to see local resident David Cole being appointed as the new head of the Hawkshead lodge.
Mr Cole took over from Phil Burrow. Senior masonic figure Frank Umbers of Liverpool said “What a great pleasure it is to attend a lodge in this wonderful part of the world. It is in a unique setting in which to enjoy good company and friendship.”
The appearance of the masons dressed in dark suits and identical ties gained the attention of visitors from as far away as Japan and the United states, with many taking pictures for their holiday snaps after being informed of the purpose of the meeting.
The meeting has been thought to have given a boost to the local economy as 80 masons and their wives had fully booked up the local accommodation and dined in local establishments.
