A COUNCILLOR is urging drivers to remain 'extra careful' after a heavy goods vehicle reportedly collided with a building in Millom.

Millom town councillor, Ruth Peters is warning drivers to 'remain vigilant' on the roads after a large vehicle reportedly drove into the Citizens Advice Bureau office in Wellington Street, Millom yesterday morning.

Cllr Peters said: "The council are aware of traffic and parking problems in Millom.

"Often extremely large vehicles enter narrow roads which are not built to handle that size.

"Sometimes people are not as careful as they should be.

"Drivers should remain vigilant and extra careful on these narrower roads."

The incident, which took place around 9am yesterday morning, was attended by the police and fire services to assess the damage.

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 9.20am yesterday morning police received a report that a HGV had collided with the citizen’s advice building on Wellington Street, Millom.

"Police and fire attended to assess the damage.

"No one was hurt in the incident."

The Citizens Advice Bureau office, which is closed on Fridays, is set to reopen this Monday after being declared 'structurally safe' by fire officials.

A Citizens Advice Bureau Spokeswoman said: "The incident was an accident.

"The fire service and police were both in attendance.

"A fireman confirmed the building was structurally safe and will be set to reopen this Monday."
