DOZENS of young Barrow dancers showed their support for a beloved grandma battling terminal cancer.

More than 75 members of Dance Extreme turned up to deliver an exclusive performance for one of the group’s biggest fans, Nanna Gibbo.

Irene Pinkney, 74, from Barrow, known by friends and family as Nanna Gibbo, has been suffering with cancer for a number of years.

Over the weekend her family were told she had just 24 hours to live, prompting a surge of support from the local community.

Granddaughter Laura Clawson described Nanna Gibbo as ‘the strongest woman we know’.

She said: “After we heard the news, I asked Sarah Pringle, the dance teacher for Dance Extreme if the troupe could come and dance outside her house as she is bed-bound and her bed lifts up to the window.

“Within a day it was all sorted, it was amazing.”

The dance troupe performed a routine to Simply the Best by Tina Turner which Nanna Gibbo’s daughter-in-law, Sarah Howard, said ‘immediately lifted her spirits.’

“She was absolutely made up,” she said.

“She said she’ll never be able to get over it, it completely lifted her spirits.

“The whole family was so impressed with the show of support, it was amazing.”

More than 75 members of the dance troupe turned up to show their support for Nanna Gibbo.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the whole troupe as well as Sarah Pringle who manages Dance Extreme.

Ms Clawson said: “Dance Extreme is not just a dance troupe but a family.

“I can’t thank Sarah enough for everything she has pulled together in less that 12 hours.

“We as a family would love to thank Dance Extreme for making Nanna Gibbo’s day. We are stuck for words for everyone’s kindness.”
