BAE bosses have contacted the Mail to issue advice to staff regarding the Michaelson Road closure following the discovery of what is believed to be military ordnance.

A BAE spokesman has said: "BAE Systems has reminded employees of the information hotline which they use to update on any potential action required.

"The number is 08081261908 and the company will update this when appropriate to do so."

This comes after police were called at 10.31am today when a number of pieces of ordnance were found in a building.

Officers have put a precautionary cordon in place on a stretch of Michaelson Road, from Bridge Road to Hindpool Road.

The public is asked to avoid this area until the incident is concluded.

Police have confirmed Michaelson Road is expected to remain closed overnight.
