A DEVOTED parent from a Barrow School has created a brand new outdoor kitchen to support the new and improved early years play area.

St Pius X Catholic Primary School, based on Schneider Road, first put out a plea on August 30 asking any parents, grandparents or members of the community whether they could create a mud / outdoor kitchen for the school’s new and extended Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) area.

Parent Anthony Criscuolo stepped up to the plate creating a near exact replica of the one the school desired as per advertised on their Facebook page.

The school’s headteacher, Kevin McGoldrick said: “We have moved some of the classrooms around which is all about future proofing the school.

"We now have a full nursery class of 26 children with only one space left.

"This is incredible considering where we were two-three years ago when we only had six children.

"After we initially put something out on Facebook Mr Criscuolo came forward to build the mud kitchen."

Mr Criscuolo has one child in Year 3 and another in the school's baby and toddler group.

Mr Goldrick highlighted how such generous actions highlight the community drive behind the school.

"It is great to see and just shows how very keen the parents are to get involved with the school."

The completed EYFS area now includes a mud kitchen, hut and extended play area for the reception and nursery class to enjoy.

With all the children now back after so many changes and improvements to the school's building, Mr McGoldrick said there is a strong and positive atmosphere in the school.

Mr McGoldrick said: "It is delightful to have all the children back - they area all full of beans."

Last year the school invested £100,000 to create a brand new main entrance and reception area
