AN AUTHOR is the fighting stigma faced by people over the age of 12 with learning difficulties.

Mother-of-two Laura Godbold, from Grange, is an educational consultant with over 18 years of experience in special educational needs and literacy development.

To tackle the special education stigma Mrs Godbold has released a book titled Tom Builds a New World, in a bid to create support for older children and adults struggling to learn.

She said: “The book’s front cover is Minecraft themed, which is deliberate as I want to make learning content relevant. Trying to get someone who is older to learn basics can be frustrating and I’ve seen many young people lash out in anger because they feel patronised, which stops them wanting to learn.

“The book teaches an alternative, modern way of learning, which sparks interest through content interesting to them.”
