Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has paid a special visit to South Lakes Birth
Centre as part of her role as Patron to The Royal College of
Midwives (RCM).
HRH The Princess Royal met with midwifery staff at the £12 million state-of-the-art
unit at Furness General Hospital along with HM Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria, Mrs
Claire Hensman; Kathryn Gutteridge, RCM President; Gill Walton, RCM Chief
Executive, as well as local stakeholders and senior leaders of the University
Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).
Since the official opening on February 14 2018, staff at the South Lakes Birth Centre have now welcomed over 1,700 babies into the world and cared for countless families.
