TRIBUTES have been flooding in for a popular park-runner who has died.

Gill Thompson, who has been described as a 'legend' within the running community, was a keen member of Barrow Parkrun.

It was as recent as this July, Ms Thompson completed her 250th parkrun.

A minute's silence was observe at Saturday's run in Barrow park.

On Barrow parkrun's Facebook page, a post said: "Today is a very sad day for Barrow parkrun with the passing of Gill Thompson.

"Gill was a legend within the local running community and was a huge character at Barrow parkrun.

"Her death is already being mourned across the wider parkrun family, which is testament to her character."

Also commenting on the page, Maya Coxon, said: "My children had the pleasure of scanning Gill in last week on what would be her last Parkrun.

"Sending all our love and support to everyone, very heavy hearted at this sad news."

Sheena Bryant said: "It was a pleasure and an honour to have known this special lady.

"She was one of a kind and dedicated to her passion of running.

"Your cheerfulness will be sadly missed by alot of people."
