THE owners of a dog which sparked a three day search have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the community’s support.

There was a huge community effort to find eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Miley after she slipped her way out of her collar on Tuesday on Birkrigg Common, Ulverston.

Owner Amy Bower from Holbeck in Barrow had started to fear the worst before she was found.

“We were getting desperate to have her home,” she said.

“We have had her for two and half years and she is a beloved family pet especially to my daughter Lily and my son William.”

Concerns grew as from Tuesday until Friday there was only one sighting of her between the Birkrigg stone circle and Birkrigg Trigpoint on Wednesday.

Mrs Bower’s husband was so concerned that he even camped out on Thursday night cooking sausages to try and tempt her back.

Many concerned pet owners and animal lovers rallied to help find her.

There was even a large group planning to head out today if she still had not been found.

Miley was eventually found yesterday at around 2pm by Dennis Wall while he was out walking his dog on Birkrigg Common.

Mrs Bower said: “My family and I would like to thank everyone for helping bring Miley home.

“People I don’t even know have been out in the pouring rain looking for her. Thank you for sharing, texting and looking for her - overwhelmed by the response - us humans aren’t too bad after all.”

When reunited and checked over she described Miley as being ‘great’ and ‘unfazed’.
