Ulverston students were jumping for joy at this year’s GCSE results, with many receiving exceptionally high grades.

After months of revision and anticipation, students from Ulverston Victoria High School were celebrating the release of their GCSE results.

The science department recorded particularly exceptional results this year, with two-thirds of the 49 students taking triple award achieving grades between seven and nine.

Some notable achievements include 15-year-old Carina Davies who achieved five nines, two eights, one seven and a six.

She said: “I’m delighted with the results, my brother managed six nines last year so there was a lot of pressure to live up to.

“I’m excited to go home and rest, it’s been an intense few months.”

Fellow UVHS student, Hattie Lee, was in a car accident immediately prior to two of her exams, however, she still received outstanding results.

She said: “Before my maths and history exam I had a car crash so I was really shook up after and thought I’d got everything wrong in the exam.

“I can’t believe it, I wasn’t expecting these results at all.

“We’re all going out for dinner tonight to celebrate.”

Fellow student, Vicky Longstaff, said she felt an ‘overwhelming sense of relief’ when opening her results.

“I was terrified to open them and feared the worst,” she said.

“I did a lot better than expected and am excited to start sixth form at UVHS.

“After sixth form, I’m planning on studying Maths at university.”

Headteacher of UVHS, Matthew Hardwick, said: “We are delighted that the school has again seeing a great set of GCSE results from our fantastic students here at UVHS.

“Children across the ability range have made excellent progress with many examples of high achievement.

“Today, our students are learning where their immense efforts over the last five years have got them and I would personally like to congratulate all of them as well as my dedicated staff and the parental body for their hard work.”
