Veronica Wetherow and Dana Earley were two of the school's top achievers.

Miss Wetherow said: "I was so pleased that I got a 9 in History as I was expecting a 7 and I am even more surprised about my biology as I thought I got 6 but I got a 9."

Miss Earley said: "I am really pleased as I put a lot of work in - I just completely turned off my phone for ages to help me focus."

Headteacher John Richardson said: "Today we celebrate a fantastic set of results with a cohort of students who have combined incredibly hard work with the brilliant teaching they have received to achieve the best set of GCSE results that the Walney community has ever celebrated.

"Particular congratulations go to Veronica Wetherow for the fantastic achievement of three grade 7s, two grade 8s and four highly prestigious grade 9s along with Dana Earley who has had similar outstanding academic success with two grade 6s, three grade 8s and four stunning grade 9s.

"The academic success of our students are just one measure of their achievements.

"I would also like to congratulate this cohort for the part they have played in transforming the culture of our school and in developing their own leadership and employability skills as we have prepared them to forge their own life stories."
