THERE is plenty on offer in South Cumbria for enthusiasts of vintage vehicles over the next couple of weeks.
To mark the three events at Rampside, Ulverston and Backbarrow we have some pictures from The Mail archive of classic cars and motorcycles.
Monday, August 26, sees the fifth Retro Classic Car and Motorcycle Show at the Clarkes Hotel at Rampide.
The free event starts at 10am and any donations will go to support the work of the North West Air Ambulance.
On Saturday, August 31, there is a Classic Car Rally and vintage fun at Ford Park and its Coach House Café, Ulverston.
The event, from 11.30am to 4pm, is raising funds for the Ford Park Community Group.
On Saturday, September 7, The Lakeland Motor Museum and Café Ambio at Backbarrow is hosting a meeting of the Lakeland Historic Car Club.
You can come to watch, or bring your own classic vehicle.
Car enthusiasts always hope to find a classic which has been gathering dust for years in a garage or barn and a great example came to light in 1989.
The Mail, on November 14 noted: "A 1960 Jaguar 3.4 mark II saloon went under the hammer for £12,000 in Ulverston.
"The bidding started at £2,000 at Tarnside Garage and was knocked down to Graham Ingham, of Haughin's Northern TVR Centre, on Holker Street, Barrow.
"The beautiful white car is now destined for a private collector in the South East of England who heard about the sale from Haughin's and asked them to bid for it on his behalf."
The car had 23,100 miles on the clock had been found in a garage with a rusted clutch and flat tyres.
The Mail, on Monday August 15 in 1994, reported on the fourth annual Classic and Custom Motorcycle Show at Ulverston Coronation Hall by the Reapers Motorcycle Club.
The article noted: “One of the star attractions was the awesome Suzuki GSX R1260 owned by Stainton biker Dave Peters, who says he’s spent £10,000 getting his mean machine into its present superb condition.”
Voted best custom bike in the show was a Suzuki GS750 brought to Ulverston by Preston rider Caroline Smith.
The best bike award went to Bill Hanna, of Furness British Motorcycle Club, with his 1946 Triumph 3T 350 twin.
