A COMEDY pub crawl featuring a host of award-winning comedians is set to land in South Cumbria this October as part of the Barrow Comedy Fest.

Barrow BID, with support from Laughing Penguin Events, is delivering a comedy pub crawl to help fundraise for SAFA which offers supports for individuals who self-harm.

The comedy pub crawl, which is hosted by stand-up comedians Ben Briggs, will start at Duke of Edinburgh in Abbey Road then on to BUMS (Barrow Underground Music Society), before heading to Townhouse and finishing at Barrow Labour Club.

Barrow BID board member and company director of Laughing Penguin Events, Sam Hughes, said the event will celebrate local talent for a charitable cause.

He said: "The comedy pub crawl is part of a larger barrow comedy festival across the weekend.

"Earlier on in the year we thought of doing something a bit different to help raise some money for charity whilst bringing the community together.

"I have some experience organising other comedy nights so we decided to start the weekend with a comedy pub crawl."

The Barrow Comedy Fest will feature a comedy pub crawl on the Thursday night, a comedy night at the Forum on the Friday night and a host of comedy film screenings throughout Saturday.

Mr Hughes said: "It's going to be a really fun weekend, we're all really excited."

The weekend proceeds will go towards the Barrow-based self-harm support charity SAFA.

"We always wanted to choose a local organisation or charity and SAFA was a popular choice when we asked online," Mr Hughes said.

"Mental health is definitely a prevalent topic at the moment which still isn't talked about enough.

"Laughing has been shown to help with moods and make people feel better so a weekend jam-packed of comedy seemed like the perfect choice."

The comedy pub crawl starts at 7.15pm at the Duke of Edinburgh.
