AN 'INTOXICATED' part-time accountant left a female police officer with a bald patch after pulling her hair for four-and-a-half minutes, a court heard.

Mum-of-three Rebecca Kleinhans kicked and pulled a large amount of hair from the scalp of PC Shannon Peet after she was arrested for being drunk in a public place.

Yesterday at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, Kleinhans, of Prince Street, Dalton, admitted to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assault by beating.

The court heard police were called to Lime Tree Road, Ulverston, on August 3.

Prosecutor Pam Ward said: “The defendant had been with family members during the day, where she had consumed a lot of alcohol.”

The court heard how the 29-year-old was seen in an intoxicated state by the police officer.

She was arrested for acting aggressively and swearing.

“She was put into the back of the police vehicle, where Ms Kleinhans refused to allow the officer to close the vehicle’s door," she said.

“The defendant kicked the emergency worker and pulled her hair for four and a half minutes.

“She pulled a large amount of hair out.

“The injuries sustained to the officer left her with a bald patch.”

Kleinhans admitted to being extremely drunk.

She said she could not believe she had behaved in such a manner and that she had respect for police officers.

Defence solicitor Maureen Fawcett said: “She feels devastated and ashamed.

“She simply cannot recall anything other than waking up in the police station and she said she did not know how she got there.

“A letter was given to the officer by Ms Kleinhans which said: ‘I am ashamed of myself.

"I’m sorry for my actions’.

“She is a mother to three young children, who she is the prime custodial carer for.

“Her partner works away and any custodial sentence would cause him to leave his job.”

Magistrates sentenced the defendant to 250 hours of unpaid work and she was told to pay £707, including £500 compensation to the officer.

Kleinhans, the court heard, had no previous criminal convictions.
