A BARROW cafe is set to shut its doors at the end of the month.

Pastures Pantry, based in Scott Street, is set to close on August 31.

The business was set up by Jon Adams and Chris Murphy in January 2016.

The couple opened the vegetarian cafe with the aim of promoting a healthier lifestyle.

At the time of opening, the cafe was believed to be Barrow’s only vegetarian cafe.

They became a popular spot, offering customers a variety of meat-free meals as well as a range of healthy snacks too.

However the pair have now announced their decision to close the business.

In an online statement, they told customers that the business would be closing at the end of August.

They said: “We will be closing the cafe this month.

“Our last shift will be Saturday August 31.

“We look forward to seeing you one last time before we put the closed sign up permanently.”

The couple expressed their gratitude to everyone who had supported them over the years, saying: “We would like to thank all of our wonderful customers for their continued support as we move onto new ventures and a well earned holiday or two.”

The couple came up with the idea to open a vegetarian cafe while they were travelling the world.

During the time away they got to experience more vegetarian food and were able to fully research their business idea and returned to the area with big plans for their cafe.

Customers were sad to hear the news of the closure.

One customer said: “Good luck to them both with what comes next.

“Thanks for giving it a shot and trying something new in the town.”

Another customer said: “I was absolutely gutted to hear about this.

“This lovely Cafe brought something new, modern and beautiful food to the town.

“Wishing them both lots of luck."

They added: "I hope they can make recipes of their salads so we can buy before they leave.”
