A MAN said he was ‘deeply ashamed’ to have been caught drink driving.
Stephen Gilbert, 42, was stopped by police while driving on a Lake District road, a court was told.
Gilbert, of Satterthwaite, near Ulverston, was caught by officers on the B5286 near Ambleside on July 27.
He had 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.
Prosecutor Amy Labram told South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court it happened at around 10.30pm.
Gilbert represented himself before magistrates on Wednesday.
He read out a prepared statement to the court explaining how sorry he was for his actions.
The defendant said: “I consider myself a decent member of the community.
“I’m deeply ashamed and embarrassed at my actions.
“I would like to apologise to society for my behaviour.”
Gilbert was disqualified from driving for 14 months.
The court also ordered him to pay a £32 victim surcharge.
He was also told to pay £85 in prosecution costs.
Gilbert told the court he would undertake a drink driver rehabilitation course, which would reduce his sentence.
