TREES surrounding a town centre car park are due to be cut down next week.

Residents in Lord Street, Millom, have been asked to remove vehicles from a parking area ringed by 10 mature trees.

Copeland Borough Council has distributed letters noting: “Please note that the trees are being removed from the Lord Street car park, with the work raking place on Monday and Tuesday.

“Please ensure that all cars, caravans, trailers and any other vehicle are removed from the car park by 8am on each day.

“Any vehicles left in the car park are at the owners’ risk for the duration of the work.”

Some of the trees will be close to 30 years old and were planted when the car park was created on a housing clearance site.

No reason is given in the council letter for their removal.
