CALLS made by Jeremy Corbyn to bring down the government with a no-confidence vote have received a mix response from MPs and residents.

Public opinion in Barrow is divided over recent calls made by the Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn to oust Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a bid to take power of 10 Downing Street.

The Labour Leader has announced he will begin consideration of a vote of no confidence in Johnson’s government ‘at the earliest opportunity’.

However, the plans have been met with a mixed response among Barrow residents.

Chris Smith, 42, from Barrow said Mr Corbyn was as useful as a ‘chocolate teapot.’

“I think his comment was appalling, he shouldn’t be involved in the matter,” he said.

“I think he likes to rattle people’s cages.”

Gary Dowd, 38, from Rawlinson Street, however, said: “I’ve got full confidence in Boris Johnson delivering Brexit.

“We need to leave whether it’s with or without a deal, this is what we voted for.”

Stephanie Haslam, 27, from Salthouse Road, said: “The people in power make promises and lie,” she said.

“I have no faith in either the Tories or Labour in delivering a viable Brexit.”

Furness Labour candidate Chris Altree said he 'does not have any confidence in Boris Johnson’ as a leader.

He said: “The British people were told that it would be the easiest deal in history to make.

“We have to protect jobs, families and communities from a hard right, no-deal Brexit.”

However, Conservative candidate Simon Fell said the Labour Leader is ‘trying to frustrate’ the will of the people.

He said: “It’s pathetic that Jeremy Corbyn, who can’t even command the support of the majority of the Labour MPs, is trying to frustrate the will of the British people and overturn the result of the referendum.

“We all know what a threat Corbyn’s coalition of chaos would be to Barrow and to the nation.

“People are sick to the back teeth of politicians promising one thing and doing something else entirely. The PM is 100 per cent right to focus on getting Brexit done.”

Barrow Independent MP, John Woodcock said: “Making Jeremy Corbyn PM would be a disaster for Barrow jobs and a disaster for our national security - I wouldn’t inflict his hard left CND views our community at the last general election and I won’t do it now.

“Mr Corbyn himself knows fine well there is not a chance in hell of him getting the support of enough MPs to make him a caretaker PM.

“The fact he is insisting on it rather than backing someone who could command a majority to stop a no deal Brexit shows how little he actually cares about people’s lives.”
