OFFICERS are urging residents to remain vigilant after a spate of burglaries across South Cumbria.

Police are investigating a number of break-ins which have have taken place throughout west and south Cumbria from 2018 to June this year.

Some of the areas targeted are Askam, Dalton, Millom, Haverigg, Bootle and Kendal.

Police have released CCTV of a man they want to speak to as part of the investigation.

Police said the offences all have a similar method in which the offenders gained entry via an insecure door and make a search of the premises having no fear if occupants are in or not.

If disturbed the offender, who is always described as smartly dressed, makes his excuses politely and leaves calmly, said police.

The offenders are targeting members of the community generally over the age of 70 years old.

Cumbria police are urging residents to consider home security arrangements in light of the burglaries.

Detective Constable Dean Young said: “There are some steps that people can take to avoid being a victim to such a crime.

“I’d urge everyone to take a moment to consider the home security arrangements.

“One example is simply locking windows and doors, even when you are at home and by doing so you automatically make it much more difficult for any would-be thief.

“I’d urge communities to look out for one another and to report any suspicious behaviour they see immediately."
