A BODY has been found in the search for a man in a river.

Police have been searching since Sunday after reports of a man missing in the River Kent at Sedgwick.

Police said the body was found in the Levens Lane area at about 3pm today.

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Police were called at around 6.38am on Sunday (August 11) to the report of a man and a woman in the water at Sedgwick.

Police said the woman was located out of the water and taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with minor injuries and has since been discharged. 

A search operation was launched at the River Kent to try to locate the man, who was in his 40s and from the local area and reported to be in the water.

Officers and colleagues from North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, mountain rescue teams, Bay Search and Rescue and the Coastguard assisted in the response.

A spokesperson from Kendal Mountain Rescue Team said: “Due to the nature of the incident we received assistance from both Duddon and Furness MRT and the Cave Rescue Organisation who each provided five additional SRT trained personnel."
